Insatiably curious about everything, Adam is a British-born sculptor now living in Fiskars Village, Finland.
Adam fell in love with the visual arts at an early age. He was given his first chisel by his school art teacher - a tool which he still possesses - who encouraged him to work in three dimensions rather than two. This turned out to be a key moment in his life and career.
Seeing Umberto Boccioni’s Unique Forms of Continuity in Space at the Tate Modern proved to be a moment of epiphany. Boccioni’s ability to create movement in a static object resonated deeply with Adam and continues to inspire him.
In 2017, Adam’s Wall Carvings Series - a series of light installations - was commissioned by a luxury resort in the Philippines. With this commission, Adam had the impetus to start his company - Adam Detre Designs - and move a step closer to working full-time as a sculptor.
Adam left the Philippines having successfully built a body of work and completed the installation: Simplicity in Motion #8 – LUNAR.
In 2020 Adam moved to Southern Finland, where he was commissioned to create a unique, public site-specific sculpture from a lopped elm tree that became Water #3 and in 2023 he completed Sun Lens – a site-specific sculpture that focuses on the Hope that the Midsummer Sunrise brings. Adam is currently preparing a pair of privately commissioned, site-specific, environmental sculptures that will be made in situ in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.
Adam’s work has been displayed throughout the Philippines and UK and sold to private collectors throughout the world.
He is living his lifelong dream.
