Simplicity in Motion #8 - LUNAR

On a particularly clear evening, Adam Detre sat watching as the full moon rose enigmatically from behind the horizon over Siquijor Island in the Philippines. Drawing inspiration from the moon’s phases, LUNAR seeks to emulate how we see the moon’s passage through time.

Visually, the carved marks in the wood use same the language as those seen throughout the Simplicity in Motion Series – simple, minimal, organic curves.

Adam chose to use this piece of Philippine Acacia as an homage to the trees that were already felled in the local area as part of the expansion of the National Highway. The tree was destined to become firewood but Adam bought the entire tree to ensure it would be given a second life. This was not intended as a statement against the expansion of the highway system but more of a means to highlight the natural beauty that is hidden in plain sight; that we may unintentionally ignore until it is gone.
